REMEMBER

SMART Recovery doesn't tell you what to think, it teaches you how to think! It is built on The Power of Choice and that means whatever works for you...

What is SMART Recovery?

This is a self-help, mutual support group that provides information for you to recover from all types of addictive behaviors, including alcohol and drugs, gambling, food, shopping, etc.

SMART Recovery teaches practical skills to help you deal with your problems for you to abstain and achieve a healthy lifestyle balance. The SMART 4-Point Program is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy tools (CBT) to help you change faulty thinking in order to change unhealthy behavior.

SMART Recovery:

  • Teaches self-empowerment and self-reliance.
  • Provides meetings that are educational, supportive and include open discussions.
  • Encourages and guides individuals to recover from addiction and alcohol abuse and live satisfying, productive and happy lives.
  • Teaches techniques for self-directed change.
  • Advocates the appropriate use of all doctor-prescribed medications and psychological treatments when necessary.
  • Works on substance abuse, alcohol abuse, addiction and drug abuse as complex maladaptive behaviors with possible physiological factors.
  • Evolves as scientific and clinical knowledge in the field of addiction recovery evolves.
  • Differs from Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and other 12-step programs but respects all recovery programs because your recovery is built on whatever works for you.
